Sodium Chlorate

Sodium chlorate, i.e. NaClO3, compared with potassium chlorate (KClO3), sodium chlorate is more often used in industry because it can be directly produced by the chlor-alkali industry. Sodium chlorate is a strong oxidant in an acidic environment. It is usually used as an oxidant in the printing and dyeing industry to produce various chlorine salts. It is also one of the important raw materials for the production of explosives and can be used as a germicidal herbicide in agriculture. It is widely used for killing weeds in non cultivated land and wasteland reclamation. It has strong phytotoxicity to all green plants.

Product Features:

white or yellowish crystal
Density: 2.49g/cm3
Melting point: 248-261 ℃
Boiling point: 300 ℃
Solubility: soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, soluble in liquid ammonia and glycerol
Sodium chlorate is easy to decompose and release oxygen when heated to above 300 ℃ under normal pressure. The oxidative capacity is very low in neutral or weak alkaline solutions, but it is a strong oxidant in acidic solutions or in the presence of induced oxidant and catalyst (such as copper sulfate). It reacts with acids (such as sulphuric acid) to release chlorine dioxide (ClO2) and has strong oxidizing property. It is easy to cause combustion and explosion when mixed with sulfur, phosphorus and organic matters or impacted. Easily deliquescent.
